If you were asked what first impression you want your home to give when someone walks through the door, you would probably say something along the lines of warm, cozy, inviting, and welcoming. Maybe even beautiful, timeless, and thoughtfully styled. The kind of space that instantly feels comfortable but still looks effortlessly pulled together.
But how do you actually create that feeling?
It is easy to think the answer is buying more. More decor, more furniture, more of everything. The truth is much simpler. Your home does not need more things. It needs better stories.
That is where vintage and antique decor comes in.
Unlike mass-produced pieces, vintage and antique finds bring character, history, and soul into your space. They create that layered, collected-over-time look that naturally feels warm, classic, and authentic. A weathered wood table, an ornate vintage mirror, a stack of timeworn books. These are not just decorations. They are conversation starters. They catch the eye and create meaningful moments that make a home feel truly welcoming and like a warm hug the second you walk in.
In this post, we have rounded up eight of the best vintage and antique decor finds currently available in our shop to help you create a warm, classic, and inviting home you will love coming back to.
About the Collection.
It is hard to find a single antique in our shop that does not bring some level of warmth, because that is such an important part of our classic, collected aesthetic at Refuge Interiors. But these pieces stand out to us not only for their warm, cozy and timeless appeal, but also for their ability to create an elevated, yet lived-in feel in any space. Many of these are investment pieces, but they are the kind that age like fine wine and pieces you will never tire of enjoying in your home.
Let’s get started!
The first piece we have selected for this collection is a beautiful Set of Cast Iron Art Nouveau Relief Plaques. With their rich copper-plated finish, this set is full of warmth and old-world charm. The relief detailing adds texture and character, making them a true statement. Style them layered in an entryway, or use them as a focal point in a small powder room to bring a touch of timeless charm.
Next, we selected this Mini Silverplated Champagne Bucket Match Holder. This piece may be small, but styled well, it brings an incredible amount of warmth and charm.
We especially love it styled as a match holder and placed next to your favorite candle, where it adds both function and a thoughtful, collected detail. The patinated silverplated finish offers something slightly unexpected, while still feeling warm and cohesive, layering beautifully with other aged metals to add depth and dimension.
It is equally charming styled atop a stack of books on a bookshelf or side table. A small piece, but one that brings a surprising amount of character to a space.
Switching gears, let’s talk about a true statement piece—this Racing Greyhounds Sculpture. This piece is rooted in classic sporting interiors, where equestrian and racing elements have long been used to bring a sense of tradition, heritage, and understated luxury. Featuring three racing greyhounds in motion, it is a striking nod to that timeless sporting aesthetic we absolutely adore.
The aged brass finish adds rich dimension and depth, creating a warm, moody focal point that feels timeworn and full of character. Style it on a mantel, bookshelf, or console to bring in that collected, old-world sporting charm that makes a space feel layered, storied, and effortlessly sophisticated.
Next, we selected the Black Porcelain Neoclassical French Empire–Style Vase. While there is no doubt that it feels entirely one-of-a-kind, we were lucky enough to source a set, making it an even more special find.
The sleek black porcelain has a moody, refined look, while the aged bronze detailing adds just enough warmth to keep it from feeling too formal. Inspired by classic French Empire design, it brings in that old-world elegance in a way that still feels easy to live with.
The color palette makes it incredibly versatile. Deep black paired with warm metallic tones is timeless and works beautifully in a cozy, collected home.
Style it with simple stems or let it stand on its own as a statement piece. Either way, it is the kind of piece that naturally elevates a space and only becomes more special over time.
For our next statement piece in this collection, we reached for one of the most beautiful oil paintings we have ever had in the shop. This Antique Oil on Board, featuring a young woman, is an original work by W. F. Hardy and likely dates back to the late 19th or early 20th century.
One of the details we love most is the age-related wear along the edges and corners. Rather than taking away from the piece, it adds to its story and authenticity, giving it that perfectly timeworn look that simply cannot be replicated.
The portrait itself is striking, with a sense of warmth and depth that draws you in and holds your attention.
The fact that this piece is unframed is one of our favorite elements. It gives it a more relaxed, collected feel and allows the artwork to speak for itself. We have styled it with a simple metal display stand (linked below), allowing the painting to take center stage while introducing a subtle, refined contrast that still feels timeless.
Next in this collection is a Pair of Antique Cherub Figural Candleholders. This is a set we had been hoping to source for quite some time and were thrilled to snag this beautiful pair.
The timeless, sculptural appeal of this set makes them easy to style and beautiful in any setting. Substantial in weight and beautifully crafted, each piece features classic cherub figures that evoke a sense of tradition and old-world elegance. The patinated brass finish is especially beautiful, featuring a desirable rich, dark tone.
We envision them styled together as shown, or placed on either end of a mantel or dining room table centerpiece for a balanced, symmetrical arrangement that feels both elevated and enduring.
Another piece of artwork we selected for this collection is this Framed 17th Century Engraving of Don Juan de Austria. While the engraving itself is beautiful, featuring authentic plate marks, fine linework, and incredible detail, we especially love the thoughtfulness and attention to detail in the way this piece has been framed.
The mat features a warm, slightly gray tone that ties beautifully into the engraving, while the bronze-toned wood frame with scroll motif detailing complements both. Together, the artwork, mat, and frame create a cohesive look in warm, neutral tones that feels layered and thoughtfully put together.
Whether styled on a gallery wall, layered on a shelf or console, it brings a sense of timeless character that makes a space feel truly collected.
To close out this collection, we naturally selected this Set of Solid Brass Louis XV–Style Rococo Double-Arm Wall Sconces. It truly does not get more classic than this set right here, and pieces like these are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
This beautiful set features a more slender silhouette, giving them an elegant feel and highlighting the ornate detailing Rococo design is known for.
The curved arms, delicate scrollwork, and warm brass finish bring softness and movement to any space. Style them flanking a mirror, above a nightstand, or in a hallway to add a sense of quiet luxury.
Each piece in this collection was chosen with intention, with a focus on warmth, character, and timeless appeal. These are the kinds of vintage and antique finds that do more than fill a space. They shape it, adding the kind of story and character that only truly collected pieces can bring.
