The beauty of Old-World European interiors goes without saying. Rich in history, character, and unmistakable charm, they have long been the foundation of our decorating style.

This concept offers a more decorative take on that enduring aesthetic. While staying true to the classic European character we love, it introduces elegant details and a more graceful approach for a beautifully refined bookcase vignette.

About the Look.

To start this look, we've selected this Hammered Brass Pedestal Bowl.

The decorative quality of this piece is unmistakable. The scrolling loop handles create a beautiful silhouette against the warm, putty-colored bookcase, while the hammered brass finish introduces warmth and subtle texture.

Displayed as a standalone piece on the top shelf, it is perfectly framed by the cabinet's arched detailing, allowing it to serve as an elegant focal point for this look.

We paired it with our longtime favorite faux florals in rich burgundy tones, which sets the color palette for the entire look.

Next, we selected this Italian Alabaster Sculpture. Its soft ivory tones and graceful classical form introduce an unmistakable sense of European elegance. Sculptures like this have a way of making a space feel thoughtfully collected, while providing a beautiful contrast to the rich finishes of the other pieces throughout the look.

To complement the bust, we included a Framed Relief Plaque Inspired by Sir Thomas Lawrence's The Calmady Children. This piece adds another sculptural layer that helps round out the look while subtly reinforcing the classical European feel. The substantial black wood frame with its gold-painted molded detailing is especially beautiful and ties in perfectly with the warm brass accents throughout the shelves.

(Though not pictured in this bookshelf vignette, the product listing for the relief plaque features a slim metal easel that beautifully displays the piece. It is linked below for your convenience.)

On the lower shelf, we selected this Silverplated Fluted Vase. Its slim profile and fluted detailing make it an ideal decorative accent for bookcase styling.

We love pairing this vase with these warm, draping florals (linked below), which tie in beautifully to the arrangement on the top shelf to help create a balanced, cohesive look.

Next, we selected this Brown Alabaster Claw Foot Trinket Box.

Although originally intended as a jewelry box, we love incorporating small decorative boxes like this into bookcase styling because of their sculptural quality.

The claw foot design continues the elegant, European influence found throughout the look while also adding another thoughtful layer of interest.

Finally, we added nine volumes from the Library of the World's Best Literature collection. We've talked about these books endlessly because of their incredible versatility for styling throughout the home.

The warm leather bindings introduce richness and history while serving as a beautiful foundation for this look. We completed the vignette with a pair of Thin Stem Brass Candleholders, whose brighter golden tones beautifully complement both the framed relief plaque and the alabaster trinket box.

Overall, this look really leans into the timeless elegance of Old-World European interiors. It's a bit softer and more decorative than our usual aesthetic, but that's exactly what makes it so beautiful. Every piece was chosen to create an elegant composition that feels rich in history and timeless in its appeal.
