Around here, we love an oversized coffee table for so many reasons. Not only does it help anchor a space, but it also opens the door for endless styling options. And as collectors who love to style and restyle our spaces, we never get tired of creating a new look with pieces we already love.
Whether we're looking to incorporate multiple groupings of smaller objects or just a few larger statement pieces as we’ve done here, having a large coffee table gives us endless possibilities for styling.
For this look, we're taking things back to what we love most: warm, earthy, full of character, and comfortably lived-in. From aged wood and marble to timeworn pottery and antique iron, this look layers all the elements that define our signature classic and collected aesthetic.
Read on to discover the statement pieces that help bring this cozy, lived-in look to life.
About the Look.
To begin this look, we selected this Authentic Reproduction Apothecary Balance Scale.
Though a reproduction, this mid-twentieth-century vintage piece is such a beautiful statement piece for your home.
Made in Italy and notable for its size and detail, it's the ideal focal point for an oversized coffee table like we've pictured here. Or, style it in the center of a console table or on a larger bookshelf for a piece that brings aged character and timeless charm.
Next, we incorporated this Large Stoneware Crock.
Stoneware pieces like these are a staple in our designs because they bring the kind of earthy texture and presence that make a space feel approachable, comfortable, and collected without ever feeling stuffy or overly formal.
We love the laid-back style of vintage and antique stoneware crocks, and the one featured here is ideal for a larger surface like this coffee table.
At 10 inches tall and 9 inches wide, this substantial crock is the perfect vessel for styling an oversized stem or branch, creating a sprawling, organic look. We selected two faux cedar branches (linked below) to complete the arrangement. It's a beautiful piece with substantial presence and, when paired with the large crock, it instantly grabs your attention.
Finally, we added one of these Large Antique Spanish Iron Skeleton Keys.
Sourced on the streets of Barcelona, Spain, these authentic antique iron keys are perfect for styling throughout your home.
In this coffee table look, we've styled the key resting between the pages of one of our favorite coffee table books from our personal collection. Gather several of these keys in a small bowl or trinket tray, or use a single piece in an unexpected way, as we've done here, to bring interest and added charm.
