Styling a coffee table, especially a large, oversized one, is one of our favorite ways to create a warm, collected focal point in a living room. It naturally becomes the center of the space and offers the perfect opportunity to layer meaningful, intentional pieces.

When styling any surface, we always encourage a focus on creating balance and cohesion. Each piece should feel considered and contribute to the overall story.

For this coffee table vignette, we leaned into a warm, timeworn, and subtly moody palette, centering the arrangement around a vintage silverplate vase we recently acquired for the shop.

About the Look.

Center stage in this vignette is this International Silver Company Silverplated Fluted Vase. While not particularly rare, it’s a perfect example of how thoughtful, well-chosen pieces can create a beautiful and intentional design without a significant investment.

The vase is rich in character, with detailing that naturally stands out. Its slender silhouette makes it especially well-suited for a coffee table, allowing for presence without obstructing sightlines across the room. It also has a notable weight to it, which is incredibly practical in a well-lived space.

What truly sets this piece apart, however, is the fluted detailing and its beautiful patina. When we first found it, the finish was nearly black. It has since been gently polished to give it a subtle glow, while still preserving the timeworn patina that gives it such depth and authenticity.

Here, it’s paired with fall floral stems (linked below) that feature beautiful warm, earthy tones, which subtly echo the warmth of the pieces throughout the vignette.

The next piece featured in this vignette is this Original Antique Ink Drawing. Dating back to 1852 and sourced on the streets of Barcelona, Spain, this piece carries a quiet sense of history that beautifully enhances the overall design. From the soft sepia tones of the artwork itself to the rich wood frame, it is layered with warmth and charm.

To make this wall piece work on a coffee table, it’s been paired with a simple metal easel (linked below). This adds a bit of height while still keeping the vignette feeling balanced and intentional.

Next is the Italian Alabaster Sculpture of Young Girl, which adds a sculptural element and a subtle contrast in material. The lighter tone of the alabaster balances the darker pieces in the vignette, adding a bit of variation while still keeping the overall palette cohesive.

To balance out the vignette, we paired a Set of Thin Stem Brass Candleholders. These are perfect for bringing height and structure to the arrangement without introducing additional visual weight. Their slender, understated profile keeps them from feeling overpowering, allowing them to layer in naturally alongside the other pieces.

To finish the vignette, a few volumes from our Library of the World's Best Literature collection are layered in. Books are always a staple on a coffee table and these are some of our all-time favorites. The rich, gilded bindings beautifully complement the overall color palette and reinforce the layered feel.

Together, these pieces create a warm, balanced coffee table vignette, with a mix of materials and tones that create a natural, easy, and beautifully collected look.
