This look draws inspiration from classic English country style interiors, pairing sporting artwork, antique leather-bound books, aged brass, and Irish setter bookends with a soft, neutral backdrop.

The layered mix of collected objects brings a sense of history and character, while the light palette keeps the overall feeling relaxed and approachable.

Traditional without feeling formal, it captures the understated charm of a well-lived country home.

About the Look.

We began this look with an absolutely beautiful pair of Original Sporting Etchings. Each limited-edition print is signed and numbered, featuring classic sporting imagery and authentic plate marks that speak to their craftsmanship and age. These etchings are professionally framed in elegant gold-tone frames and feature beautiful soft brown mats. While sporting artwork often leans dark and masculine, the warm palette and thoughtful presentation of these etchings feels lighter and more refined. They capture the rich history and character of traditional sporting interiors while bringing a freshness that feels right at home in a country house.

To complement the artwork, we paired a timeless set of Brass Chamberstick Candleholders. With their intricate rope detailing and classic silhouette, these pieces bring just the right amount of warmth and polish to the shelves. One of our favorite ways to create a collected look is by repeating materials throughout a space, and the brass finish found here echoes the tones of the frames, bookends, and other accents throughout this look. These subtle repetitions create a sense of rhythm and cohesion, making the look feel naturally layered and intentional.

No English country interior would feel complete without celebrating the beloved Irish setter. For this bookshelf look, we selected an exquisite pair of Irish Setter Bookends, featuring a beautifully aged brass patina. Their elegant silhouettes reference the sporting traditions that have long influenced English interiors, yet they also bring personality and charm. They feel both sophisticated and playful, adding character without feeling stuffy.

Books are the foundation of any well-styled shelf, and for this look we incorporated eight volumes from our fourteen-book set of The Library of the World's Best Literature. Beyond their perfectly timeworn appearance and rich coloring, one of the greatest advantages of a larger set is versatility. Rather than concentrating all of the books in a single vignette, they can be distributed throughout a room or even an entire home. This simple approach helps a space feel layered, lived in, and collected over time.

To introduce variation, we also included an antique French leather-bound classic, Vie de Beethoven. The worn leather and rich rust tones provide a subtle contrast to the darker volumes while keeping the overall palette warm and cohesive. Pieces like this are especially useful when styling bookshelves because they prevent things from feeling too uniform.

For decorative accents, we selected a wonderful set of English Scale Weights. We are always drawn to pieces like these. Originally designed for everyday use, English scale weights bring an instant sense of history and character to any display. We especially love them layered atop a stack of books, where their aged finish and simple form add interest without demanding attention. They are unexpected, easy to style, and have a way of making a bookshelf look as though it has come together naturally over time.

Finally, we finished this look with a small stoneware crock. Stoneware vessels are everyday decorating staples for us that we believe work beautifully in any space. Their weathered surfaces and simple shapes bring an instant sense of age and charm. More importantly, they keep traditional interiors from feeling too polished or overly styled. A bookshelf filled with brass, artwork, and leather-bound books needs something a little rustic to balance it out, and stoneware does that beautifully.

What we love most about this look is how effortlessly it blends tradition with comfort. Each piece brings its own history and character, from the sporting etchings and antique books to the brass accents and timeworn stoneware. Overall, the look feels intentional yet approachable.
