I’ve always been a dog lover. I grew up in a family that always had a dog, and to me, a home has never felt complete without one. While we had a beloved small fox terrier growing up, who I adored, I’ve always been drawn to large dogs.
When it came time to choose a dog of my own, I knew I wanted a big guy. In fact, the day I signed on my first home, I also adopted my first dog, Caesar.
At the time, they thought Caesar was a lab and hound mix, but as he grew, it became clear he likely had some Great Dane in him as well. Tall, long-legged, and around 95 pounds fully grown, Caesar was very much a large—if not extra-large—dog.
After Zach and I were married, Caesar quickly became both of our dog and very much a part of our everyday life. He was with me for nearly eleven years, and his presence shaped our home in ways I still feel today.
After losing Caesar unexpectedly in November of 2024, opening our hearts to dogs again felt like the only way forward.
Not long after, we adopted two lab/hound mix puppies from the same litter, Moose and Rubin. Today, Moose and Rubin are just over a year old and already big boys. While they’re a bit shorter than Caesar was, they still weigh between 75 and 80 pounds each—putting us, once again, firmly in the large dog category.
Designing a Home for Large Breed Dogs.
Living with large breed dogs—first Caesar, and now Moose and Rubin—taught me early on that designing a home for big dogs requires more intention. While I truly believe there’s nothing quite like sharing your space with a large dog, it does change how your home functions day to day.
Their size naturally influences everything from where they stretch out and play to how they move through hallways and claim their favorite spots. Flooring durability, traffic flow, furniture placement, and materials that can stand up to everyday wear all become part of the equation.

And of course, where a large dog rests is part of that same daily rhythm. As Moose and Rubin grew, it became clear—just as it had with Caesar—that having a place for them to settle comfortably mattered just as much as every other design decision we’d made.
Finding dog beds that are comfortable, supportive, and genuinely large enough isn’t just a nice extra for big dogs—it’s essential for their comfort and for maintaining a home that feels calm, functional, and well considered.
The Search for the perfect dog bed.
As someone who cares deeply about how our home looks and feels, I’ve always believed that functional pieces should still feel thoughtful. Even everyday items deserve a place in a thoughtfully designed space, and dog beds are no exception.
Because I’ve only ever owned larger dogs, that balance between form and function has always been especially important. Large breeds need real support when it comes to their bed, and finding a dog bed that could truly hold up, without sacrificing design, proved harder than expected.
Caesar’s first bed was a large, dark gray poly-fill bed. Although the size was technically adequate, the filling quickly flattened with daily use and offered little lasting support. He rarely chose to lie there, instead settling on the sofa, a rug, or anywhere else he could get comfortable—ultimately leaving a flattened, unused bed sitting awkwardly in the corner of our living room.
When it came time to replace it, I knew I wanted something with orthopedic support that he would enjoy and that could maintain its shape over time. I eventually settled on this large suede sofa bed.
While this bed did provide the support Caesar needed—and he clearly liked it—I never loved the look. It felt purely functional and never quite fit within the rest of our home. Still, we made do, and after losing Caesar, I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of his bed. In time, Moose and Rubin naturally took to settling into the same one.
From a design perspective, the problem for me with most of the large breed pet beds on the market, is the size and shape. When you have a dog bed that’s over three feet wide, it takes up a substantial amount of floor space in any room and thus needs to be thoughtfully considered.
I’ve always been drawn to the curved silhouette of more traditional style dog beds, but when I came across these styles, they were rarely large enough and almost always poly-fill—which, in my experience, doesn’t hold up well for larger dogs or provide the orthopedic support they need. And when I did find something closer in size with acceptable support, the style was often underwhelming—solid colors or basic two-tone combinations that didn’t feel timeless or thoughtfully designed.
All of this is to say that I have spent years—literally years—searching for a dog bed that truly balanced comfort and design. In 2025, I finally found one that changed everything. Introducing the Enid Blythe Timeless Dog Bed.

The Enid Blythe Timeless Dog Bed was originally gifted to us by the brand in July of 2025. That said, it’s important to note that this review is independent and not sponsored.
We loved this bed from the start—puppies included. What stood out to me immediately was the way it treats comfort and design as equally important, something I had yet to find in a dog bed before. Our puppies took right to it, but as with any piece that sees daily use, I was curious how it would hold up over time.
After six months in our home, it’s proven to be well made, durable, and thoughtfully designed—especially for large dogs. Below, I’m sharing our experience and the reasons this piece has worked so well in our home. Be sure to read to the end for my final thoughts and a small added bonus.
Size.
This dog bed is available in sizes small up to 2XL, making it suitable even for very large breeds.
We currently have the Large size for our two lab/hound mix puppies. As they’ve gotten older, it’s become a tighter fit for both of them to lie comfortably together—though they still regularly try!
The first photo below was taken when our pups were about eight months old, and they could easily snuggle up side by side. While they can still both fit today (see second photo), it’s definitely a cozier fit when they are together, but the Large size works perfectly for them individually.
Based on how well this bed has worked for us, we’ll likely be adding a second one soon so each dog has their own.
support, structure, and Weight.
Support was one of my biggest concerns, and this bed has truly delivered.
Even with regular daily use—and plenty of energetic play—it has maintained its shape beautifully over the past several months.
It hasn’t flattened or sagged despite the dogs’ weight and the rowdiness of two puppies, even when they’re jumping directly onto it. They regularly choose it over our living room sofa, which says everything.
One bonus I didn’t expect to appreciate as much as I do is the weight of this bed. Our dogs play hard and often jump around, occasionally nudging furniture and shifting it slightly, but the bed stays firmly in place. That stability means it doesn’t slide or need constant readjusting—a small detail that’s made everyday life just a bit easier.
Easy To Care For.
Anything that can go in the washing machine is a must when you live with dogs. Muddy paws, drool, food debris, and everyday wear are simply part of life, especially with larger breeds.
The removable cover on this bed is machine washable, which makes upkeep feel manageable and practical rather than tedious.
With eight muddy, wet winter paws coming in and out over the past couple of months, I’ve already had to wash our cover. I followed the brand’s care instructions with no issues at all—the cover cleaned up beautifully and held up just as well as it did before.
The waterproof interior is also a much-appreciated detail, adding an extra layer of protection for everyday use.
Style and Silhouette.
As I mentioned above, I’ve always been drawn to the curved silhouette of traditional dog beds, and this design was exactly what I’d been searching for. It’s generously sized for large dogs to stretch out comfortably, yet the curved shape keeps it from reading like a flat, oversized cushion taking over the floor.
Instead, it feels intentional and well proportioned within the room—something I struggled to find in other large dog beds for years. That balance between function and visual presence was the real game changer for me.
The fabric options reinforce that same thoughtful approach. We chose the Tawny Ledger fabric, a soft beige-brown with a subtle check pattern that feels timeless and understated. Rather than calling attention to itself as a pet item, it blends seamlessly into our home and reads more like an upholstered piece than a dog bed.
That ability to quietly belong in the space—without sacrificing comfort—is what truly sets this bed apart from others I’ve tried.
Is This Dog Bed Worth The Investment? My Honest Take.
After living with the Enid Blythe Timeless Dog Bed for the past six months, it’s easy to say it’s one of those rare finds that truly delivers.
Our dogs love it for the comfort and support, and as a designer, I appreciate how seamlessly it fits into our home. It strikes the balance I’d been searching for for years, practical enough for large dogs, yet thoughtfully designed enough to feel intentional in any room.
